To the average eye, one would see a basketball. But this is not just any basketball, this is an official WNBA basketball. Not a basketball a male should use, but a basketball that women use, in the Women’s National Basketball Association.

According to Gamble & Gamble, gender and sports coverage has been highly differentiated. Men sports are typically unmarked to gender, athletes are generally referred to by last name only, there is emphasis placed on athleticism and they are highly over reported. Women sports however are gender marked, athletes are generally referred to by first name only, there is an emphasis places on sexuality and they are under reported.
